ROV TOOLING AND WORK PACKAGESThe Working ROV has been upgraded and developed over the last 10 Years and is a capable of most underwater tasks that the Diver has been performing now and in the past, all it takes its a bit of ROV friendly engineering. The basic designs are modular work vehicles which can accept different "Work" modules. The work modules are expected to be designed and fitted by the ROV Operating Companies, Usually these work modules are developed around a Customers Specification for different Underwater work tasks such as Construction, Non destructive testing, Salvage and Diver support. Seabed Survey, Pipeline, WreckThe Work ROV is the perfect carrier of Sonar, Laser and Magnetometers for Seabed surveys. The advantages with an ROV versus towed Vehicles and AUV's is that you can stop and have a close look at what you have just spotted with your sensor equipment. Although large area surveys are faster performed by Towed vehicles or AUV's. The ROV can also take immediate action recovering objects or take samples of the Seabed. Seabed SurveyThe ROV can move along the seabed at high speeds without disturbing the seabed. The ROV can also carry all the Sensors the surveyors require for the Survey and the instruments can be monitored as the survey is performed. If any part of the Survey is unsatisfactory or any point of special interest has been found the ROV can return to this point for further investigation. Pipeline SurveyIn the Offshore Oil environment the ROV is used for Pipeline survey's utilising Sidescan Sonar, Odometers, DGP's Navigation systems, Video and Still Camera Photography and other NDT equipment. The ROV generally travel along the pipeline using a wheeled undercarriage which measure the distance travelled and also acts as a platform for several extended Video Camera Arms. The Arms give the ROV Operator the opportunity to see the Pipeline along the side and to without having to Fly the ROV around the Pipeline. Typical sizes of Pipelines are 36 Inches. The ROV is also utilised before the Pipeline is put on the Seabed to make sure that the Pipeline does not end up on top of Debris or a Rocky Seabed, if any obstacles are detected the Pipeline Engineers can change the position of the Pipeline before the Pipe laying is started. Wreck SurveyWork ROV's are used extensively in connection with Wreck and Treasure Surveys The ROV is a much cheaper option to use in investigating the condition or exact location of a Ship Wreck on the seabed then using Divers unless the water depth allow Scuba Diving. Insurance Companies use ROV's to find and detect the real reason for Ship losses since the ROV can provide a Video record of the Wreck which can aide in the understanding of a Ships lost at sea. Archaeologists Have used ROV's to get a perspective of the site before the Excavation start. The real advantage with the Work ROV is that if the Depth of the Wreck is prohibitive to using Divers or more economical then Divers the ROV can carry an impressive array of Tooling to help the recovery or survey of the Wreck.
